Beginning of Songkran/Thingyan Break

It’s almost time for the New Year Water Festival, called Songkran in Thailand and Thingyan in Burma. Even the rising grade 10 students, who have been living at New Blood School for anĀ intensive summer study camp, get 10 days off to celebrate! Many are taking the opportunity to visit their families in Burma before the big exam. For their first evening of freedom on Sunday, AYNIL took the students to a Songkran fair and night market in Mae Sot to see AYNIL partner Lane Terzieff, aka Lancifer, perform on the main stage. Afterwards, the students enjoyed roaming around the fair, buying snacks, winning stuffed animals, and riding the Ferris wheel. Some of the students were apprehensive about riding a Ferris wheel for the first time, but, as Nan Aung Aye said, “We were on there for so long that, by the end, I wasn’t afraid anymore!”
